ACCELARATING HIGHER EDUCATION EXPANSION AND DEVELOPMENT (AHEAD) OPERATION –WORLD BANK PROJECT

VACANCIES

The University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka will entertain applications for the under mentioned posts from suitably qualified persons up to 15th May 2019 for the Development Oriented Research Project (DOR), Faculty of Engineering, Kilinochchi   under the Accelerating Higher Education Expansion and Development (AHEAD) Operation implemented by the Ministry of City Planning, Water supply and Higher Education and the University Grants Commission.

The aim of this DOR project is to develop a novel, energy-positive wastewater treatment coupled with microalgae cultivation. The selected candidates are expected to involve in the development of bioreactors, indoor/outdoor testing of microalgae cultivation, microalgae derived bio-lipid production and mathematical modeling of bioprocesses.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT [ON CONTRACT ]   – 01 POST

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering, and Agriculture OR related fields which is recognized by the UGC. Priority will be given to special degree or first class honors
  2. A track record of research as evidenced by publications/ presentations as an undergraduate or post graduate would be an added advantage.
  3. Prior research experience pertinent to Gas chromatography AND/OR Analytical chemistry is desirable

Age :  Not more than 35 years.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • High level of proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment inspiring trust and cooperation of other team members.
  • High level of IT literacy, especially in the areas of Word, Excel, email and internet.
  • Knowledge in statistics and computational methods
  • Knowledge in basic microbiology
  • Proven analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently in a research team
  • Ability to solve technical and methodological issues that arise during the course of the research

RESEARCH ASSISTANT cum PROJECT ASSISTANT [ON CONTRACT ] –   01 POST

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • Proven ability to handle Operation activities related to Finance and Procurement activities in the University in accordance with the World Bank Guidelines.
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment inspiring trust and cooperation of other team members.
  • High level of IT literacy, especially in the areas of Word, Excel, email and internet.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally in Sinhala or Tamil.
  • Ability to communicate in English with the World Bank, Ministry of City planning, Water Supply and Higher Education, UGC, OMST and others.
  • Knowledge in statistics and computational methods.
  • Proven analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a research team.
  • Ability to solve technical and methodological issues that arise during the course of the research.

 

REMUNERATION AND OTHER CONDITIONS

  • RESEARCH ASSISTANT : A monthly payment of LKR 55,000/= (inclusive of CLA) and applicable EPF & ETF will be paid.
  • RESEARCH ASSISTANT cum PROJECT ASSISTANT :A monthly payment of LKR 70,000/= (inclusive of CLA) and applicable EPF & ETF will be paid.

OTHER BENIFTS: Selected candidate can register for MPhil with University of Jaffna and the Registration fee for MPhil Programme will be covered by the Project depending on the candidate’s eligibility.

CONTRACT PERIOD: This is a full – time position. Initially the contract appointment shall be for a period of 12 months. The position may be renewed based on performance and need during the period of the Operation.

METHOD OF RECRUITMENT: By interview. Successful candidate should be able to start work immediately.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

Selected candidates if presently serving in a Government Department / Corporations/ Statutory Boards will have to obtain his/her release through their respective appointing authority.
