Concept Note

The theme for the first national conference on vector biology which is being organized by the Department of Zoology of the University of Jaffna in 2016 is “Emerging Challenges in Controlling Insect Vector-borne Diseases in Sri Lanka”.

The theme is designed to address the key challenges faced in controlling the major insect vector-borne diseases in the country. Although the theme is expected to speak about the major insect vector-borne diseases in the country, it is not necessarily limited to them. The organizing committee expects the speakers to speak about all the aspects of epidemiology of the vector-borne diseases at national and global scales.

The conference aims to highlight challenges and strategies related to the control of vector-borne diseases in the country. The researchers in various aspects of vector-borne diseases from entomology, animal biology, physiology and virology, are encouraged to present their findings.

The themes of the conference are:

  • Vector biology & ecology
  • Vector control
  • Parasitology
  • Virology
