Post of Research Assistant (On contract)

Applications are invited by the Department of Physics, University of Jaffna from qualified candidates for the post of Research Assistant (On contract) funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) of Sri Lanka. Selected candidate is expected to register for an MPhil degree (possibly leading to a PhD degree) at the University of Jaffna and engage in full time research on ‘Novel Materials for Sodium-ion Batteries and Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells’.

The period of appointment would be two years and 3-6 months research training will be at the USA-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy, National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Pakistan. Depending on the research progress and the availability of funds, selected candidate may have a chance of getting research training in Sweden as well.

Based on the candidate’s performance at the end of the second year, he/she may be allowed to continue for a PhD degree.

Required qualifications:

• A four year Bachelors Degree with specialization either in Physics or Chemistry
• Prior research experience in the field of Materials Science would be an added advantage

Expected Technical Skills: Synthesis of novel materials for applications in batteries and fuel cells, hands on experience with material characterization techniques. Priority will be given to those who possesses hands on experimental experience in electrical, spectroscopic, structural and thermal characterization techniques.

Stipend: Rs. 40,000 (monthly) + Registration and tuition fees for the MPhil/PhD studies
