FACULTY OF ARTS
University of Jaffna will entertain applications from qualified persons for the undermentioned posts:
i.Temporary Assistant Lecturer/Temporary Tutor/Temporary Instructor / Temporary Demonstrator
Archeology /Art & Design/ Christian Civilization/Drama & Theatre Arts / Economics /English Literature /English Language Teaching / Fine Arts /Geography/Hindu Civilization/Hindu Philosophy / History/Home Economics / Information and Communication Technology/Linguistics/Media Studies/ Planning /Philosophy /Political Science/ Psychology /Sanskrit /Sociology / Tamil / Translation Studies
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications for the posts:
1. A Degree with specialization in the relevant subject with First or Second Class (Upper Division) Honours;
OR
2. A Degree with specialization in the relevant subject with Second Class (Lower Division) Honours;
OR
3. (a) A Degree with specialization in the relevant subject without Honours or any other degree with at least Second Class Honours, and (b) a recognized postgraduate degree in the relevant subject
Notes: Candidates awaiting the results of the final degree examination may also apply for Temporary Tutor /Instructor/Demonstrator
ii.Temporary Instructor /Visiting Instructor
English Language Teaching
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications for the posts:
1. A Special Degree in English;
OR
2. A General Degree with English Language as a subject;
OR
3. A Special /General Degree with a Diploma in English of not less than 18 months duration obtained from a University or UGC recognized other Higher Educational Institution
OR
4. The Postgraduate Diploma/Masters m in Teaching of English as a Second Language from the University of Colombo/Open University of Sri Lanka or an equivalent qualification of not less than one year duration obtained from a University or UGC recognized other Higher Educational Institution
iii.Visiting Lecturer/ Visiting Instructor in Media Studies
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
A special degree in the relevant field with at least five years’ experience in teaching/professional experience
• Preference will be given to those who have postgraduate degree (MPhil/PhD.) in the relevant degree/subject along with the required experience
Salary:
Temporary Assistant Lecturer Rs. 35,556/- per month fixed
Temporary Tutor /Instructor/Demonstrator Rs. 29,190/- per month fixed
Visiting Lecturer (lecture) Rs. 1,500/- per hour
Visiting Lecturer (practical) Rs. 600/- per hour
Visiting Instructor Rs. 600/- per hour
Visiting Instructor in English Rs. 750/- per hour

Application forms and other details may be obtained from the office of the Deputy Registrar/ Academic Establishments, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, either in person or by post, on a payment of Rs.100/- per application form at People’s Bank, University of Jaffna Branch or at the Shroff’s counter of the University of Jaffna. Those who wish to obtain application forms by post are requested to send a Money Order/Postal Order drawn in favour of the Bursar, University of Jaffna together with a self–addressed stamped envelope 23×10 c.m. in size.
Application forms and other details will also be available in the University website www.jfn.ac.lk. Those who wish to send the application forms downloaded from the University website should attach a Money Order/Postal Order for Rs.100/- drawn in favour of the Bursar, University of Jaffna.
Applications for the above posts should be sent to the Deputy Registrar/ Academic Establishments, University of Jaffna.
Applicants from the University System/Government Departments / Corporations and Statutory Board should channel their applications through the Head of the respective Institutions. Illegible, incomplete and late applications will be rejected without intimation. Only short listed applicants will be called for interview.
