Vacancy for the post of Career Guidance Facilitator – (Full Time)

FACULTY LEVEL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

FACULTY OF APPLIED SCIENCE

Applications are invited for the above post on contract basis from suitably qualified persons up to 16th October 2020.

1. BACKGROUND
The Faculty of Applied Science of the Vavuniya Campus of the University of Jaffna offers courses in Environmental Science, Information & Communication Technology and Applied Mathematics & Computing. The success of offering these courses is ultimately depending on the employment opportunity for the students obtaining these degrees from our institution. It is not only obtaining just a job but also, it is important to obtain highly paid jobs in reputed private companies. This in turn will increase the popularity of our course in our institution and subsequently increase the “Z” score to enter Faculty of Applied Science, in the Vavuniya Campus. In order to make sure that our students are absorbed into these reputed firms we are hoping to higher an energetic personality who can establish links between higher authorities of high-end firms/companies of Sri Lankan and academic staff members of the Faculty of Applied Science.

The idea has been already incorporated into the development proposal of Accelerating Higher Education Expansion and Development (AHEAD), Enriching Learning, Teaching and Assessment (ELTA) and English Language Skills Enhancement (ELSE) Development Projects (DPs). After winning the Competitive grant, the Faculty of Applied Science has embarked on implementing its projects in the proposal for AHEADELTA-ELSE. Out of 5 activities (now 6) the second activity is to empower industrial interactions and making sure placement of undergraduate students in proper high-end firms for their industrial training and finding suitable jobs for passing out students from the Faculty of Applied Science.

2. The Objectives of the Facilitator

The Career Guidance Facilitator objective is to empower industrial interaction through arranging meeting between relevant faculty staff and eminent industrialists and canvasing for our passing out students at highly paid high-end firms for their job opportunity. Also must arrange career fairs linking reputed firms from Sri Lanka.

3. The Tasks of the Facilitator

The Career Guidance Facilitator (CGF) must undertake and not be limited to the following activity as the scope of the facilitating service.

• The CGF must have continuous good contacts with the staff members of the Faculty of Applied Science of the Vavuniya Campus of the University of Jaffna.
• The CGF should work with academic staff of the Faculty of Applied Science to improve the curriculum towards job oriented.
• The CGF must have good links with reputed high-end firms in Sri Lanka.
• The CGF should establish links with the higher authorities of Faculty of Applied Science academic staff and arrange meetings to discuss career opportunities and facilitate job oriented curriculum development.
• The CGF should be able to find placements for at least 50 students per year the placement for their industrial training in the above mentioned firms in the fields of Environmental Science, Information & Communication Technology and Applied Mathematics & Computing.
• The CGF should work with respective staff members of the Faculty of Applied Science to arrange career fairs to provide job opportunities to students of Faculty of Applied Science in their relevant field of studies.
• The CGF should have the capacity to canvass for our students and find relevant job opportunities in well paid firms.
• The CGF should arrange workshops on soft skill development for the Faculty of Applied Science students.
• The CGF should arrange filed oriented visits to industries for our students to motivate them in the first year of enrolment.
• The CGF should be able to visit Vavuniya when needed or whenever requested by the project coordinator.
• The CGF must provide his/her service at least for two consecutive years.

4. Duration of Assignment

This is a full-time position. Initially the Contract Appointment shall be for a period of 12 months and may be renewed based on performance and need during the Operation period.

5. Required deliverables

As per the request of the Activity Coordinator to meet the target.

6. Required Qualification

• A Special/4-year Degree from a University recognized by the UGC Sri Lanka.
• A Postgraduate Degree from a University recognized by the UGC Sri Lanka.
• Holding/Held a higher position such as CEO or HR in a high-end reputed firm.
• Good communication skills preferably in English, Sinhala and Tamil.

7. Age

• Preferably 40-65 years of age.

8.Other Requirements

• Preferably to work from Colombo/Colombo suburb (no accommodation will be provided).
• Willing to travel by public transport.

Mode of Payment

A monthly payment of LKR 100, 000.00 it includes EPF and ETF contribution by the employer.

Payments will be made by OTS Office, upon submission of the monthly progress report by the Project Coordinator based on approval by the OTS Director.

Method of Appointment

Open advertisement and selection by interview among the shortlisted candidates.

Reporting

The consultant shall closely coordinate and report to Dr.S.Wijeyamohan the Activity Coordinator, AHEAD, Faculty of Applied Science, Vavuniya Campus of the University of Jaffna.

Ownership of the Assignment

Faculty of Applied Science will have the ownership of all deliverables from this nonconsultancy.

Person in-charge

Dr. S. Wijeyamohan, the activity coordinator for Empowered Industrial interaction and field
visits (Activity 2) shall be the in-charge.
