Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka has donated LKR 4.3 millions to Jaffna University

The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka has donated LKR 43 lakhs to support the welfare of the students of the University of Jaffna. This financial aid was granted to the University under the Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship Scheme. Prof. S. Srisatkunarajah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, received the grant from His Excellency Qi Zhenhong, the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, at the Chinese Embassy in Colombo at 4 p.m. on Sunday, the 2nd of October 2022.
Ms Li Qingrui, the First Secretary to the Chinese Ambassador, Dr S. Rajumesh, Director of Student Welfare Services and Dr. M. Thanihaichelvan, Focal point for the Chinese Ambassador’s scholarship were present at this event.
Since 2016, the financial aid granted under the Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship Scheme has been distributed among the different universities in the country. This year (2022), the entire financial is shared between the University of Jaffna and the Eastern University, Sri Lanka.
The Student Welfare Branch of the University of Jaffna has informed that this financial aid will be utilized for many welfare schemes including the provision of a monthly bursary for the students of the University.
