35th General Convocation – Part II

03, 04 & 05 March 2022

With the blessings of Lord Parameshwara and Lourdes Parvati, the second part of the 35th General Convocation will take place on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of March 2022 at the Indoor Stadium of the University of Jaffna. At this Convocation, the Chancellor of the University will ceremoniously confirm the award of degrees and certificates at the Virtual Convocation held on the 7th of October 2021. The University decided to conduct a Virtual Convocation last year in view of the pandemic situation in Sri Lanka.

Emeritus Prof. S. Pathmanathan, the Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, will preside over the Convocation. While ceremoniously confirming the award of degrees, certificates, gold medals, prizes and scholarships at the Virtual Convocation held on the 7th of October 2021, he will also felicitate the graduates.

At this Convocation, degrees will be conferred upon graduands from the Faculties of Graduate Studies, Arts, Engineering, Science, Agriculture, Management Studies & Commerce, Medicine, Technology and Allied Health Sciences of the University of Jaffna and the Faculties of Business Studies and Applied Science of the erstwhile Vavuniya Campus of the University of Jaffna (now the University of Vavuniya, Sri Lanka). Graduands from the Center for Open and Distance Learning of the University of Jaffna will also receive their degrees on this occasion.
At this Convocation, 238 graduands of the University of Jaffna will receive their postgraduate degrees. Of those who will receive their degrees at this Convocation, 1, 795 are internal graduands and 585 are external graduands.

Of the 238 graduands who will be awarded their postgraduate degrees, 04 will be awarded their PhDs, 16 will be awarded MPhil degrees in their respective fields, 31 will be awarded MPhil degrees in Saiva Siddhanta, 47 will be awarded MBA degrees and 14 will be awarded MSc degrees in Environmental Management. Of the rest, 101 graduands will receive their Master Degrees in Education, 10 will receive their MA degrees in Cultural Studies, 02 will receive their Postgraduate Diplomas in Management and 13 will receive their Postgraduate Diplomas in Library and Information Science.

As internal students, 131 graduands from the Faculty of Medicine will receive their MBBS degrees, 65 graduands from the Faculty of Agriculture will receive their BSc (Special) degrees and 55 graduands from the Faculty of Engineering will received their BSc (Engineering) degrees.

From the Faculty of Arts, 52 graduands will receive their LLB degrees, 15 graduands will receive their BA special degrees in Translation Studies, 309 graduands will receive their BA special degrees and 02 graduands will receive their BA general degrees. In addition, 63, 56, and 20 graduands will receive their BFA degrees in Dance (Bharatham), Music and Art & Design respectively. 38 graduands from the Siddha Medicine Unit will be conferred upon their BSMS degrees at this Convocation.

From the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, 24, 15 and 18 graduands will receive their BSc special degrees in Nursing, Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory Science respectively.

174 graduands from the Faculty of Science will receive their BSc (General) degrees. One graduand from the Faculty of Science will be awarded a Diploma in Fisheries.

From the Faculty of Management Studies & Commerce, 246 graduands will receive their BBA special degrees whereas 08 graduands will receive their BBA general degrees. The Bachelor of Business Administration (General) degree will be conferred upon 12 graduands. The Bachelor of Commerce degree will be awarded to 72 graduands.
From the Faculty of Technology, 88 graduands will receive their special degrees in Engineering Technology and 77 graduands will receive their special degrees in Bio System Technology.

From the Faculty of Applied Science of the erstwhile Vavuniya Campus of the University of Jaffna, 27 graduands will receive their BSc (Special) degrees in Information Communication and Technology, 06 graduands will receive their BSc (Special) degrees in Environmental Studies, 06 graduands will receive their BSc (Special) degrees in Computer Science, 41 graduands will receive their BSc (General) degrees in Information Technology, 23 graduands will receive their BSc (General) degrees in Computer and Applied Mathematics and 13 graduands will receive their BSc (General) degrees in Environmental Studies. From the Faculty of Business Studies there, 34 graduands will receive their BBA degrees in Project Management, 80 graduands will receive their BBA Special degrees and 25 graduands will receive their BBA (General) degrees.

In addition, 146 and 63 graduands from the Center for Open and Distance Learning of the University of Jaffna will receive their BBA (General) degrees and BCom degrees respectively at this Convocation. Moreover, 370 graduands from the Center will receive their BA degrees while one graduand will be awarded the Bachelor of Music degree and 05 graduands will be awarded the Bachelor of Dance degree.

  • Due to the threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in Sri Lanka, the health instructions and guidelines issued by the health authorities of the country will be strictly followed throughout the Convocation.
  • As usual, in addition to the graduands, their parents will be permitted to attend the Convocation. Graduands and those who attend the Convocation at invitation are kindly requested to follow the health guidelines.
  • Only graduands and their parents will be given permission to enter into the Indoor Stadium. Photographers and videographers will not be admitted.
  • Arrangements have been made by the Vice Chancellor’s Media Division to livestream the entire Convocation via the official website and the Official Facebook page of the University of Jaffna and YouTube channel.

The University Community requests the participants, visitors and the larger public to follow the health guidelines and maintain social distancing and extend their cooperation to the successful completion of the Convocation.
