Sir Pon Ramanathan & Lady Leelawathy Ramanathan Memorial Lectures

University of Jaffna has made it a s a tradition to honour eminent personal who have served the University of Jaffna in particular and to the society in general. Memorial lectures are conducted annually in this regard and as part of this tradition,  Sir Pon Ramanathan & Lady Leelawathy Ramanathan Memorial Lectures were conducted on 21 & 22 January respectively at the Kailasapathy Auditorium.

Sir Pon Ramanathan memorial lecture was delivered by Prof. Jegath Weerasinghe, Prof.WeerasingheDirector of the Institute of Archaeology, University of Kelaniya. Prof. Weerasinghe recollected his childhood memory
regarding Sir. Pon Ramanathan in his introductory address and expressed that Sir. Pon Ramanathan was a man with a great vision for this country. The title of the memorial lecture was “Conserving Buddhist Stupas and Religious Nationalism in Sri Lanka”, which explored the epistemological and ideological fix in the practice of archaeology in Sri Lanka. Click here to view the manuscript of the lecture.

Dr.Mrs.Sathiyaseelan

To commemorate Lady Leelawathy Ramanathan, a memorial lecture was delivered on 22 January 2016 by Dr.(Mrs.) A. Sathiyaseelan, Head of the Department of Education, University of Jaffna, on the title ” வட இலங்கையில் யுத்தத்திற்குப் பின்னரான சூழமைவினுள் மனிதநேய விழுமியப் பேணலும் கல்வியின் பங்களிப்பும்”. Click here to view the manuscript of the lecture.

Both memorial lectures were presided by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna and attended by a large number of students, academics, staff of the University of Jaffna and general public. These lectures were followed by cultural events performed by the Fine Arts students (Ramanathan Academy of Fine arts).
