User awareness programme on using SCOPUS

With the assistance of Staff Development Centre, University of Jaffna has acquired access to SCOPUS Abstract and Index database. This database is accessible through the University Network including premises of Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Vavuniya. A user awareness programme on using SCOPUS is organised to provide an introduction of Scopus to students/ researchers and make them aware about the advanced features & updates in Scopus for their research.
SCOPUS (operated by “Elsevier”, The Netherlands) is the largest abstract and Index database of peer-reviewed literature (scientific journals, books and conference proceedings) from more than 5000 publishers. It provides access to more than 120,000 Books and 22,000 peer reviewed journal titles of which 4200 open access journals.
Content coverage of SCOPUS is as follows:
- Social Sciences- Psychology, Economics, Business etc – 7,684
- Health Sciences -100 % MEDLINE, Nursing, Dentistry – 6,740
- Physical Sciences – Physics, Chemistry, Engineering – 7,410,
- Life Sciences – Biology, Neuroscience, Pharmacology -4,436

Contents: Live demonstration of the following key features and functionalities of SCOPUS:
– Searching and browsing of scholarly publications
– Uploading references into bibliographic software
– Tracking citation overview of an author and affiliation
– Setting up automatic email alerts
