Vacancy for the post of Temporary Research Assistant

The University of Jaffna will entertain applications from qualified persons for the Temporary Research Assistant for the project titled “Situation Analysis on Early Childhood Development Policy and Practice in Sri Lanka” implemented by the Regional Collaborating Centre for SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute (SDGHI), Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in science or an equivalent qualification from a university or Higher Education Institution recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
  • Preference will be given to candidates with post-qualification experience in health-related research.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven proficiency in data collection, data analysis, and academic/scientific writing.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing the research project activities according to the study protocol and timeline.
  • Act as a liaison between project stakeholders, including collaborators, healthcare institutions, and participants.
  • Conduct fieldwork, including participant recruitment, data collection, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ensure data quality by performing regular checks and validation.
  • Perform literature reviews relevant to the project.
  • Prepare progress reports, manuscripts, and presentations for academic and stakeholder dissemination.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines and regulatory requirements throughout the research process.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of ethics applications and amendments as needed.
  • Organize the workshops, training sessions, and other capacity-building activities related to the project.
  • Assist with the preparation of project budgets, procurement, and financial reporting.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for meetings, conferences, and stakeholder engagements.

Remuneration:

  • A monthly salary of LKR 80,000.00 will be paid.

 General note to all the above posts

  • All selected candidates will be appointed full-time for one year.
  • Should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
  • Ability to work in the field of any part of Sri Lanka.
  • Age should be not less than 18 years and not more than 35 years.
  • All selected candidates will become a contributor to the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) and the Employee Trust Fund (ETF), the employee should contribute 8% of the monthly salary to the EPF and the employer will contribute 12% & 3% of the monthly salary to EPF & ETF, respectively.

A non-refundable fee of Rs. 100.00 must be paid via bank deposit to the People’s Bank, Account No: 970000090000387, in favor of the Bursar, University of Jaffna. A copy of the bank slip must be attached to the application.

Applicants are requested to send their applications with copies of the educational certificates and any other relevant certificates in proof of qualifications and experience via registered post to reach the Deputy Registrar, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna, Adiyapatham Road, Kokuvil, Jaffna. Applicants are requested to send scanned copies of all the documents to the email address: fomvacancy@univ.jfn.ac.lk on or before the 29th of August 2025.

Applicants from the University System/Government Departments/Corporations and Statutory Board should channel their applications through the Head of the respective Institutions.
