Professor S. Srisatkunarajah assumed duties as the 9th Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna on 28th August 2020. He is an alumnus and an academic in Mathematics, Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the Faculty of Science, University of Jaffna since 2009.
Having completed his PhD in 1988 at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh by providing a first-time solution to a challenging problem, Prof.S.Srisatkunarajah resumed duties as senior lecturer in Mathematics and spent the whole time in the university to continue the teaching activities during the difficult period of the university.
In his field of Mathematics, Prof.S.Srisatkunarajah has internationally recognized achievements, and his professional experience is widely commended by national and international mathematical communities.
He had an outstanding academic record as a Special Degree student in Mathematics with all round participation in Athletics, Soccer, Cricket and Student Union activities. He obtained degree with First Class Honours with a very much higher average than what is required for the First Class and obtained the University Prize for Mathematics. He was awarded University Soccer Colours. Achieving outstanding academic distinctions with all round active participation in Sports and Students’ Welfare activities is an indication of his gifted ability to organize time and perform delegated tasks in time.
He contributed to the institutional development of University of Jaffna in various ways such as;
- Establishing the Faculties of Technology/ Engineering/ Hindu Studies
- Establishing Quality Assurance System in the University
- Advising on IT and Web Management
- Curriculum Planning and Development
- Strengthening Research Capacity
- Laboratory Planning and Development
- Contribution to Institutional Development through IRQUE Project, HETC Project and AHEAD Project
- Contribution to the Development of University Sports
- Contribution to Student Counseling and Guidance
- Library Planning and Development
