Professor S. Srisatkunarajah assumed duties as the 9th Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna on 28th August 2020. He is an alumnus and an academic in Mathematics, Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the Faculty of Science, University of Jaffna since 2009.

Having completed his PhD in 1988 at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh by providing a first-time solution to a challenging problem, Prof.S.Srisatkunarajah resumed duties as senior lecturer in Mathematics and spent the whole time in the university to continue the teaching activities during the difficult period of the university.

In his field of Mathematics, Prof.S.Srisatkunarajah has internationally recognized achievements, and his professional experience is widely commended by national and international mathematical communities.

He had an outstanding academic record as a Special Degree student in Mathematics with all round participation in Athletics, Soccer, Cricket and Student Union activities. He obtained degree with First Class Honours with a very much higher average than what is required for the First Class and obtained the University Prize for Mathematics. He was awarded University Soccer Colours. Achieving outstanding academic distinctions with all round active participation in Sports and Students’ Welfare activities is an indication of his gifted ability to organize time and perform delegated tasks in time.

He contributed to the institutional development of University of Jaffna in various ways such as;

  • “President Research Awards”
    Awarded twice for the scientific publications in reputed indexed Journals by His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka on the recommendation of the National Research Council of Sri Lanka in 2013 and 2014.
  •  “Commonwealth Fellowship”
    Awarded to undertake one year research as a Research Fellow at the University of Bristol and Heriot-Watt University I 1997/98 by the Commonwealth of Learing, UK.
  • “Young Mathematician from Developing Countries”
    Awarded by the International Mathematical Union (IMU) at the International Congress for Mathematicians in Zurich in 1994 (ICM 94).
