Oath Ceremony – Nursing, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences

The first oath-taking ceremony of the 14th Batch (2018/2019) of B.Sc. Nursing undergraduate students of the Department of Nursing Faculty of Allied Health Sciences was held at the Hoover Auditorium, Faculty of Medicine, on 20th May 2022. The oath-taking ceremony is an auspicious ceremony where the nursing undergraduates take their oath after receiving their cap and the lamp. It is a symbolic celebration to recognize the responsibility and importance of Nursing care by every budding Nurse. This celebration was conducted for the students who were successfully completing their first year and entering into the second year of BScHons.(Nursing) degree at Department of Nursing, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. Jaffna.

Ms. Rajula Vallipuranathan, Former Director of Nursing was invited as Chief Guest to grace the occasion. All dignitaries; Vice-Chancellor, Librarian and Registrar from University Jaffna, Lecturers from the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences and Faculty of Medicine of University of Jaffna, Consultants and Physicians from Teaching Hospital, Jaffna, Nursing tutors from College of Nursing, Jaffna, all Nursing professionals from teaching hospital Jaffna and base hospital, Thellipalai and 13th batch BScHons.(Nursing) students were joined in this occasion

The ceremony is inducted by lightening the lamp of Florence nightingale and followed by lightening traditional oil Lamp. The welcome speech was delivered by Mrs.Deivy Thabotharan, Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. Head address about this oath-taking ceremony was delivered by Mrs.Luxmi Kamalarupan, Head, Department of Nursing, FAHS. Next to this, ceremonial events such as Capping, Lightning, and oath-taking took place. Students recite the Nightingale Pledge, which is a modified version of the Hippocratic oath specifically for nurses, that stresses not to do any harm, and to be dedicated to their work as a nurse. The Vice-Chancellor, University of Jaffna delivered an excellent address that emphasized the importance of the Nursing profession and its worldwide reputation. The chief guest speech is delivered by Ms.Rajula Vallipuranathan, she highlighted the significance of the Nursing profession. The batch coordinator of the 14th Batch, Mrs.S.Kajenthini, Department of Nursing delivered the Vote of Thanks. The video coverage of event supported by the audio-visual team of University of Jaffna. The programme concluded around 11.30 am.
