MoU on educational and research cooperation between the University of Jaffna and the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences

Today, 14 of March 2017, the University of Jaffna and the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on educational and research cooperation at Masters and PhD level. The agreement is part of a 5 year joint NORPART project on student and staff exchange within the fields of nanomaterials and clean energy technology. The main research area of the project will be new generations of solar cell technologies. The project also aims to establish a master programme at the University of Jaffna in clean energy technologies and to facilitate joint supervision and dissemination. The project is funded by the Norwegian government and has a budget of 80 million rupees.

A high level delegation from the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, consisting of Vice Rector, Dr. Bjoerg Kristin Selvik, Dean of the faculty of Engineering, Prof. Geir Anton Johansen, Special adviser at the international office, Mrs. Maren Stallemo and the NORPART project coordinator Prof. Dhayalan Velauthapillai attended the inauguration ceremony of the project in Jaffna. On behalf of the University of Jaffna, Prof. Vasanthy Arasaratnam, Vice Chancellor, Deans of the faculties at University of Jaffna and Professor P. Ravirajan, project coordinator at UoJ participated. Prof. Kumaravadivel represented the University Grant Commission and the Deputy Ambassador Knut Nyflot represented the Royal Norwegian Embassy at the inaugural function along with academics, students and well-wishers.
