Technical Officer from the Faculty of Science won Gold Medal in the Island-wide invention and innovation competition “Sahasak Nimavum-2020”

A Technical Officer from the Faculty of Science, Mr. Khalingarajah Harichandra, participated in an Inventions and Innovations competition known as “Sahasak Nimavum-2020” on 26th June 2020 conducted by Sri Lanka Inventors Commission and won a Gold Medal. He received the Gold Medal from Dr. Anupa Herath, Assistant commissioner, Sri Lanka Inventors Commission and the certificate from Prof. N M S Sirimuthu, Commissioner, Sri Lanka Inventors Commission during the awarding ceremony held on 16th December 2021 at the Main Auditorium, National Institute of Business Management, Vidya Mawatha Colombo-07.

Mr. K. Harichandra, Technical Officer in Fisheries, Faculty of Science, University of Jaffna invented “an automated hand washing station” under the ‘public works and infrastructure engineering’, a subcategory of University and Tertiary Educational Institutes for the year 2020.

Realizing the necessity of maintaining personal hygienic condition following COVID 19 pandemic in the country, he designed a sensor-based automated faucet that dispenses water and liquid washing agent in a proper time interval in order to maintain regulated hand washing with null contamination. Moreover, he participated in Kaohsiung International Invention and Design EXPO (KIDE) 2020, during December 11 – 13th 2020, through an online platform due to the COVID-19 pandemic with the guidance of Sri Lanka Inventors Commission.
