Rural Health Development: A Way Forward in Northern Province
The University of Jaffna invites applications from qualified individuals for the positions of Temporary Project Coordinator and Temporary Community Health Workers for the project “Rural Health Development: A Way Forward in Northern Province.” This project is funded by the International Medical Health Organisation and conducted by the Centre for Digital Epidemiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.
- Post of Temporary Project Coordinator | Vacant – 01 post
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), Allied Health Sciences, Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS), Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS), or a related field from a UGC-approved university or recognized higher education institution (HEI).
- Preference will be given to those with a minimum of three years of experience in community-based health-related projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Scheduling the work
- Assist in developing project plans, timelines, and schedules.
- Team Coordination
- Coordinate and collaborate with project team members, ensuring they have the necessary resources and information to complete their tasks.
- Communication with the healthcare provider and team
- Ensure effective communication with the healthcare providers and within the project team.
- Documentation and reporting to the project lead
- Maintain project documentation.
- Reporting the progress and the project-related issues to the project lead.
- Should take over the Community Health Worker’s duties when necessary
- Any other relevant duties assigned by the Project lead
Remuneration:
- A monthly salary of LKR 39,130 will be paid.
- Post of Temporary Community Health worker | Vacant – 25 posts
Requirements:
- Minimum of six months of work experience in community-based health-related projects.
- Preference will be given to those who are currently pursuing or have completed training or courses related to enhancing the health and well-being of the community and family.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Support to the healthcare providers
- Support in areas such as health education, patient follow-ups, and preventive care. Community Healthcare Workers can conduct initial assessments, assist with basic medical procedures, and help manage chronic conditions.
- Data Collection and Reporting
- Documenting health – related data and community health needs.
- Reporting this information to the project lead through the project Coordinators.
- Support to Health Education and Promotion
- Providing support to the health care providers educating community members about health issues, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Conducting health awareness campaigns and workshops
- Distributing educational materials and resources.
- Any other relevant duties assigned by the Project Lead
Remuneration: A monthly salary of LKR 32,608.00 will be paid.
General notes to all the above posts
- Candidates are able to work in the field of any part of Northern Province, Sri Lanka.
- Candidates should possess excellent language skills in Tamil.
- All the selected candidates will be appointed as full time on a contract basis for one year.
- Candidates should be citizens of Sri Lanka.
- Age should be not less than 18 and not more than 45 years.
- All the selected candidates will become contributors to the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) and the Employee Trust Fund (ETF), in which case, the employee should contribute 8% of the monthly salary to the EPF and the employer will contribute 12% & 3% of the monthly salary to EPF & ETF respectively.

Applicants from the University System/ Government Departments/ Corporations and Statutory Boards should channel their applications through the Heads of respective Institutions but may send an advance copy in the first instance. However, no such applicant will be considered for interview, if the application channeled through the Head of the Department is not received.
