Development of Novel Electrolyte and Electrode Materials for Secondary Sodium-ion and Magnesium-ion Batteries

VACANCIES

The University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka will entertain applications for the under-mentioned posts from suitably qualified persons up to 28th February 2020 for the Development Oriented Research (DOR) Project, Faculty of Science under the Accelerating Higher Education Expansion and Development (AHEAD) Operation implemented by the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation (MHETI).

The main objective of this research project is to develop novel electrolyte and electrode materials for secondary sodium-ion and magnesium-ion batteries. Selected candidates are expected to involve in the development of electrolyte and electrode materials for secondary sodium-ion and magnesium-ion batteries and also to study the performance of full-cells.

  • RESEARCH ASSISTANT – ON CONTRACT     (01 POST)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree with either Physics or Chemistry related course components
  2. A track record of research as evidenced by publications / presentations at undergraduate or postgraduate level would be an added advantage
  3. Prior research experience pertinent to ‘Materials Science’ or ‘Rechargeable Batteries’ is desirable

Age:  Not more than 40 years

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  1. High level of proficiency in written and spoken English
  2. Ability to function effectively in a team environment inspiring trust and cooperation of other team members
  3. High level of IT literacy
  4. Knowledge in novel materials for batteries, basic electrochemistry and spectroscopic techniques
  5. Proven analytical skills and ability to work independently in a research team
  6. Ability to solve technical and methodological issues during project implementation

 RENUMERATION AND OTHER CONDITIONS

RESEARCH ASSISTANT: A monthly payment of LKR 55,000/= (inclusive of cost of living allowance) and applicable EPF & ETF will be paid.

OTHER BENEFITS: Selected candidates can register for an MPhil degree at the University of Jaffna and the registration fee for the MPhil Programme will be covered by the project.

CONTRACT PERIOD: This is a full-time position. Initially the contract appointment shall be for a period of 12 months. The position may be renewed for additional 18 months based on performance and need during the period of the operation.

METHOD OF RECRUITMENT: By interview. Successful candidates should be able to start work immediately.
