Brief description of the Department of Law

The Department of Law,  one of the young departments of the Faculty of  Arts, offers a four year programme of study, leading to award of Bachelor of Laws Degree since 2005.  During the time of establishment of the department, admitted students followed their Degree progamme at Colombo Tamil Sangam due to the disturbances prevailed. The students were supported, guided and taught by the staff attached to University of Colombo. Mr. B. N. Thamboo(Attorney – at – Law) serves as Academic Coordinator for the Colombo Branch of the Department of Law since 2006.

At present the number of students admitted to this Department has rapidly increased and currently there are about 60 students from every part of this country are following the programme .  Teaching and other programme for the first three batches of the Department of Law are carried out in Jaffna premises and the subjects offered for the final year programme are followed in Colombo Centre, located at No.57, Sangam Lane, Colombo – 06.

Brief description of the Sports Science Unit

The physical education unit (Academic) of the University of Jaffna was founded in October 1998 by the then vice-chancellor Prof. P. Balasundarampillai. In 2003, physical education unit (academic) was renamed as sports science Unit.

This unit offers a  self financing two years diploma course in physical education. Among those who satisfy the university admission eligibility criteria, 50 students have been selected to offer the diploma program, based on a competitive selection process.
